Who do I report someone to who grossly lied on a home loan app, got approved, and moved in already?
Providing that fraud has not been committed by someone signing your name to doents, this person may just be boasting of what they have gotten away with. Bare in mind that lenders will take certain actions when a loan (especially a new loan) has default problems. They may take the 4506 form that this person signed at closing and order tax doents, or other such similar actions. If fraud is established the lender will call the entire note due and payble immediately. As part of all mortgage loan closing doents, there was a certification that must be executed that attest the "information contained on the application is true and correct to the best their knowledge". They can be fined or jailed or both. If it is a FHA loan, you can report fraud on the HUD website below, and if fraud is determined to be true then this person will never be able to get another FHA loan. Something else, recently the IRS as been obtaining copies of mortgage loan applications, by federal warrant, in an attempt to doent suspected tax evasion, then reviews the claim of the income stated on the application, maybe even reviewing tax returns provided to the mortgage lender and compare it to the filing of the income on this persons federal tax returns. The IRS website can also provide information on reporting fraud, then cost us all money!
